Crew Member [United Kingdom]


 

You will be required to pass an ENG1 medical prior to partaking in the one week of residential STCW training course.

General purpose crew are employed on a seasonal part time basis generally until 27th October. There are no fixed or guaranteed number of hours worked each week. This is not a live in position so you will need to located within commuting distance of Bideford and Ilfracombe, North Devon. Whilst the hours are not fixed we will endeavor to give you a minimum of four days per week.

SAILING SCHEDULES:

The summer (BST) scheduled sailing season normally comprises the following schedule to include weekends and bank holidays, (dependent on when BST starts and ends):

  • Three sailings per week during June
  • Up to four sailings per week during July and August
  • Three sailings per week during September and October
  • Private charters and River cruises to meet customer demand

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Purpose crew will be under the direction of the First Officer (Mate) who will assign duties or instruct a senior member of crew to do so. Those duties and responsibilities will include:

· Assist in all respects of operation and maintenance of the ship

· Assist with buffet, bar and ship duties

· General on-board cleaning

· Passenger welfare

· Cargo handling

In addition the specific tasks which distinguish one job from another, all staff have certain common responsibilities which are as follows:

Perform the job to a high level of competence in accordance with the requirements set out in the Job Description.

Maintain a high standard of efficiency and quality in all aspects of their work.

Safeguard the reputation of the Lundy Company.

Maintain at all times, good relations with colleagues including volunteers, the public and supporters.

Observe the terms and conditions as set out in the Contract of Employment.

Undertake training as required to fulfil the needs of the job.

Follow and promote all standing instructions including Fire Precautions, Security and Emergency procedures.

Observe the Lundy Company’s policies on health and safety, and follow the Lundy Company’s instructions and procedures so as to comply with relevant statutory requirements. In particular, staff should:

a) Take reasonable care, both for their own safety and the safety of others who could be affected by their actions

b) Co-operate with, and follow any specific instructions given by their department officer

Report any defective equipment or hazardous situations to their department officer

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Lundy Island is owned by the National Trust and administered by the Landmark Trust. Situated in the Bristol Channel, 11 miles off the North Devon coast, Lundy has its own passenger/supply vessel, MS Oldenburg.

The ship provides a seasonal operation comprising a passenger/cargo service from April until end of October from both Bideford and Ilfracombe. From November to March she operates a cargo only service from Bideford.

Staying passengers are transported to Lundy by helicopter during the winter months which operates from our heliport at Hartland Point.
